Whether you’ve noticed today’s Google Doodle, heard about it on the news, or been alerted by a friend; chances are you realize that today is the 200th anniversary of the birth of famous English author Charles Dickens.
But did you know that Preus Library is having a special celebration? Today at 3:00 p.m. on the library’s main floor (between the Circulation and Research Help desks) we will be hosting a performance of The Essence of A Christmas Carol in 13 Minutes written and directed by Harland Nelson (professor emeritus of English). Starring a colorful cast of Luther student actors as well as a few special guests, this skit offers a humorous look at what happens when you try to condense the words of a literary genius.
Whether you’re an English major or not, we think you’ll get a laugh or two out of this once-in-a-lifetime experience and even learn a thing or two about Charles Dickens and his great contributions to literature.
Following the performance, birthday cake will be served at Research Help where you can also peruse a small portion of the library’s Dickens collection on display.
